Blue Giant Equipment Corp. (www.bluegiant.com) offers a line of dock safety equipment that features door and dock guards. The XDS (extra dock safety) series of dock equipment safety guards is designed to prevent forklift trucks from rolling off the dock when an overhead door is open and trucks are not backed up to the dock. The device is mounted 22 in. into the building from the face of the deck plate, and serves as a pallet stop to protect door panels and trucks from impact damage when the overhead door is closed. The company says the safety guard can stop a 10,000-pound load rolling at a speed of 4 m.p.h. It is hydraulically activated and extends 7.5 in. above the deck.
